Leadership in Bloom: Be a Dandelion Not an Orchid

Dandelions don't wait for perfect soil—they bloom where they're planted. So can you! In today’s

ever-changing  landscape,  leaders need resilience, adaptability, and the ability to help others grow.

This engaging, interactive workshop designed for current and aspiring leaders, uses the metaphor

of dandelion leadership. Participants will explore practical strategies to lead with courage, distribute

leadership, and thrive in uncertain conditions. The dandelion metaphor is a call to action for both

current leaders and those aspiring to leadership to keep trying, considering where they can lead and approaching leadership with courage and fortitude.

Go and See: Bringing Genchi Genbutsu into
Instructional Leadership

Principles for Gemba.png

If you want to lead learning, go to where it happens! Discover how a core principle from the Toyota Production System can transform your leadership practice. Genchi Genbutsu—“go and see for yourself”—emphasizes the power of firsthand observation to understand problems and drive improvement. This interactive session will explore how “going to the gemba” (the place where learning happens) is essential for effective instructional leadership. It is a simple concept but often one that gets pushed to the side in the busy days of school leaders--effective instructional leadership requires intentional classroom presence by leaders.

NOTE: This presentation can be modified for leaders in any environment who are looking to enhance their supervision skills.

Creating Your Leadership Brand

Creating a leadership brand means intentionally defining how you want to be perceived as a leader and aligning daily actions with that identity. A clear brand communicates values, builds credibility, and shapes culture by ensuring consistency between what leaders say and what others experience. Current literature emphasizes that leadership branding fosters trust, engagement, and organizational success. Ulrich & Smallwood (2007) argue that leaders who clarify their identity and live it consistently create stronger organizational cultures. Kouzes & Posner (2017) highlight credibility—“doing what you say you will do”—as the foundation of effective leadership. This interactive presentation enables participants to consider the "why" behind their leadership, and consider how they can actualize their values, beliefs with daily actions.

Moments That Matter: Checking in With Purpose

Meaningful check-ins can strengthen relationships, build trust, and create a deeper sense of connection and belonging.

Too often, “checking in” becomes routine—quick conversations that skim the surface. This presentation reframes it as an intentional act of leadership: a chance to pause, listen with curiosity, and respond with empathy and purpose. Participants will learn how to recognize moments that truly matter, ask questions that invite openness, and use these interactions to foster understanding, motivation, and well-being. Through storytelling, reflection, and practical strategies, Moments That Matter: Checking In With Purpose empowers leaders and aspiring leaders to move beyond transactional exchanges and create authentic moments of connection—small actions that make a lasting impact on people and culture.

From Grind to Grateful: Reclaiming the Joy of Leadership

Too often, leaders get caught in the cycle of constant demands—solving problems, managing change, and pushing for results. Gratitude helps reframe that experience, revealing the good in each day and the growth in every challenge. Participants will learn practical ways to integrate gratitude into their leadership habits, celebrate small wins, and cultivate joy in the everyday moments that matter most. Inspired by The Gratitude Project and grounded in the power of positive perspective, this session explores how an attitude of gratitude can shift leadership from a daily grind to a fulfilling practice rooted in purpose and connection. Through reflection, storytelling, and actionable takeaways, From Grind to Grateful helps leaders move beyond burnout and back into balance—leading not just with skill, but with heart, optimism, and renewed energy.
